Opticians - Blackheath, London

On this project our teams were called to assist regular client, Drycon Ltd, with this refurbishment in Blackheath, London. Although the building had previously been an Estate Agents it was being converted into a high-end opticians. Our teams have worked on a number of branches of this particular opticians chain however this building presented more challenges as the building had fallen into disrepair.

T&H Contract Services was the ideal choice for this project due to the multidisciplinary nature of our business. Our client was able to benefit from our capacity to offer a joined-up approach to this project providing both the cleaning and painting and decorating. Our cleaning teams first attended site, removing builders waste and rubble before carrying out our high specification builders clean. This enabled the site to be as clean and dust free as possible before our painting and decorating team commenced work.

Using our own cleaning team has a number of benefits; it means that we can manage tight timescales more effectively than waiting for an additional external cleaning contractor. It is also always more cost effective for our clients.

In this instance our cleaners were able to go in during the night. The team arrived in the evening, as construction trades team were finishing for the day. They then thoroughly cleaned the site before painting started the next morning.

As expected, with a building in this state of disrepair a lot of work was needed to bring the weathered exterior up to the required standard. The teams worked hard to carefully prepare the surfaces, filling and sanding with an appropriate exterior filler. The team worked systematically to fill and repair all cracks and damage to the ornate stonework arches and doorway, with its attractive decorative columns.

As this is a period building with impressive high ceilings and high arching windows our team needed to safely reach all areas. Towers were used throughout the work on both the interior and exterior of the premises to ensure safe high-level access for both the painting and cleaning teams.

Our customer had specified that all surfaces were to be painted simply white in accordance with their vision for the brand. The stonework painted in white really complemented the period features and original brickwork of the building creating a modern but welcoming look. In the interior the white backdrop allowed the opticians merchandise to be shown at its best without distraction, highlighted by pops of colour from the neon lighting and shelving.

Once decorating works were completed our cleaning team again visited the site. They were tasked with carrying out the final pre-opening ‘sparkle clean’. The opticians’ staff were now on site and merchandising the store. Our teams ensured that all surfaces were free from dust, paint spots and that the large feature windows were spotless. They also carefully cleaned the back of house areas to provide a clean and inviting breakout space for the staff. Our team were able to remove all waste materials and packaging as the store was stocked ready to open. This approach means our teams are able to assist with the handover to the new occupants of the building.

Our clients were thrilled with the high quality presentation of the store, one of many our team have been involved in for this high end opticians chain.
