St Pauls Cathedral - The Monarch & The Changing World

Back in February we were approached by a company called ICS graphics who asked if we could help them with a project for the Queens Platinum Jubilee at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, intrigued by the request we agreed and were sent the drawings for tender.

We sent the quote back and in March and received the go-ahead to proceed. The works started at the beginning of May.

Before starting we received a list of Dulux colours, these were to be used on some large 4.5m high 4m wide canvas arches. At this point we were unaware that the colours selected matched the Queens outfits from previous jubilees, the colours chosen were:

• Dulux 63RR 39/350
• Dulux 70BG 57/234
• Dulux 41GG 67/162
• Dulux 02YY 32/054
• Dulux 30RR 15/375
• NCS RAL 3050 Y30R

Upon arrival at Saint Pauls, we were given access to all areas of the cathedral, we were met by the staff from ICS graphics and the interior designer who gave us further instructions, it was only at this point that we realised what a big deal this project was, we were told that the exhibition would be seen by hundreds of thousands of people over the coming months.

The job involved two men over a two-day period working long hours to make sure the project was delivered on time to ensure that the staff from ICS graphics and the interior designers has sufficient time to finish off the remaining works.

As with the Queens outfits the colours are bright and vibrant and light up the exhibition. Once completed the project manager and interior designer invited Jeremy and I together with our partners to the opening ceremony, this was a great honour and an amazing experience.

The exhibition is called The Monarch and Changing World and explores the grand ceremonial occasions held at St Paul’s Cathedral and commemorates the royal jubilees of four great British monarchs George III, Queen Victoria, George V and Queen Elizabeth II. The show is on until the 1st of December 2022.
