Westmorland Shopping Centre

Lambert Smith & Hampton (LSH) and their client South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) were looking for a reliable and experienced contractor in the commercial sector to carry out internal decorations, including to means of escape routes and the entrance stairwell, to their Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal.

Working closely with the LSH team, we ensured that the members of the public were safe and that all vulnerable areas were protected, including flooring with a non-slip dust-sheeting.

We completed some of the works out-of-hours to ensure minimal disruption to the day-to-day function of the shopping centre. Although we worked to a tight programme, we ensured at the beginning of each nightshift that the Site Manager was made aware of the areas we were working in for complete security of the premises. Access was a concern to the client and the impact of public perception during opening hours. We therefore decided to use mobile towers which were removed at the end of each day and locked away safely.

To further enhance the quality of the finish, and because the areas had high volume of footfall, we worked with our product specialists to design a paint system that would extend the lifecycle of the areas. A specialist scrubbable finish was selected to increase the maintenance cycles, supported by a durable water-based quick-drying and low odour product, allowing the shopping centre to be open as normal again every morning.

It was imperative for the client that the completed works were of the highest standards; therefore, our Site Supervisor completed quality audits on a daily basis with each aspect signed off before moving onto the next stage. This system provided surety to both LSH and SLDC that the shopping centre refresh was in exceptionally capable hands.
