Fife College

Following a competitive tendering process, we secured this contract with Fife College to provide painting and decorating across four college campuses to areas including classrooms, offices, staff rooms, libraries, reception areas, corridors and communal areas, stores, workshops, laboratories, kitchens, toilets, changing rooms, medical rooms and sitting rooms.

We recently carried out a teaching lab redecoration programme at the Dunfermline campus. The works involved painting and decorating and renewing the floor coverings. A detailed programme of work was developed by the Estates Manager – there was a rolling programme in place that had to be strictly adhered to so that only one teaching lab was being worked in at any one time to ensure minimal disruption to the College’s teaching lab capacity. This required an emphasis of working to tight deadlines, maintaining seamless lines of communication with the estates department and cooperation with the flooring contractor.

Operatives must be mindful of the working environment and work in the quietest manner possible to minimise any disruption to students. When working in areas that encounter pedestrian footfall, we segregate our working zone by using fixed barriers to prevent access into the work area. We also use zip wall to segregate the work area if required and to prevent the spread of dust/fumes from the workplace.

We have sourced and recommended to the estates department paint products that are low in odour and extremely quick-drying that can be used where essential maintenance is required but in areas that are in public use.

All operatives are security checked by Trident before being permitted to work on-site. As a condition of the contract, all operatives must also have a valid Enhanced Disclosure Scotland Certificate due to working in environments that may contain vulnerable groups.
