Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh
Services provided: programmed painting services - external and internal painting
What was the client looking for? Based in Edinburgh, Merchiston is Scotland only boys' independent boarding and day school. Educating boys for over 175 years, the school was founded in 1828 by Charles Chalmers.
During Summer 2012 Mitie secured a five year programmed painting contract for the school. This involved a full repaint of all main buildings in year one followed by an annual maintenance service over the next four years.
How did we help? To ensure implementation of the programmed painting service was as hassle-free as possible, we produced proposals which will be followed up with annual service reports. This helps the school determine what is going to be done and how it i going to be done, it also allows the school to make the necessary arrangements to accommodate the work being carried out. The annual report also included inspections to highlight problems before they become serious.
But, hassle-free implementation is not the only benefit - cost certainty is central to the programmes' success. Instead of paying a single lump sum fee for a one off paint job, the cost is spread over five years allowing the school to budget accurately and ensure the painterwork looks as good as it did on day one.
The results... Through using our programmed painting services, Merchiston School is receiving a quality long term finish within a defined budget. Long term cost savings are achieved by annual inspections, and repairs to damaged areas minimises the need for costly future repairs. In addition, the programme is 100% flexible meaning additional buildings can be added to the contract at any time
