Scope of Works
Ernest Park commissioned KML Decorators to handle the decorating works needed across 368 apartments, communal areas, office space, restaurant, bar areas and stairways in this multi-storey development.
The team were tasked with painting all walls, ceilings, and woodwork, as well as spraying of M&E services. With so many apartments and levels to work on, the task required a constant presence on site over 24 months and peaked at 30 KML team members on site.
The scale of this project required a permanent onsite Site Manager throughout the 2-year lifecycle. Akeem Cooper was selected to oversee the team, the works, identify issues, pick up snagging and manage quality at every turn.
Akeem Cooper has been a member of the KML Decorators team since 2014. London based, Akeem started with KML as a trainee and gained experience and knowledge of the Decorating industry that has seen him excel as one of our most valued team leaders. He is SSMTS qualified and has supervised some of KML’s largest projects to date.
Managing this project and the staffing requirements whilst staying on top of client requests, changes to specifications, and delays to schedule required skill, patience and resilience.
Much of the contract was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic which led to much more logistical management and unprecedented challenges. The management of staff absence and increased security, not to mention the testing requirements, were elements that had not been planned for. Many more health and safety objectives had to be met and the wellbeing of the KML team was at the forefront of the onsite management. Akeem’s’ capable leadership meant these aspects were all accounted for and managed smoothly.

Akeem and his team used Dulux Trade products throughout, and wherever possible KML selected water-based Dulux products for their low VOC properties. Dulux Trade Durable Matt was the most used paint as the long-lasting durable finish was the right choice for not just the luxury apartments, but also the high-traffic communal areas.

In addition to his responsibilities as a Site Manager, Akeem managed the environmental commitments KML Decorators strive to meet on every project. Our focus is always to minimalise waste through accurate ordering, management of products on site, and recycling of all empty paint tins. Akeem coordinated with the Dulux Recycling Scheme to ensure that we reached our recycling targets across the duration of the build and that as little paint was wasted as possible.
