Gresham College - Decorative Painting
Bagnalls were delighted to be awarded the decoration contract at Gresham College, the oldest Higher Education Institution in London.
There were three key areas of decoration; Barnard’s Inn Hall, the adjoining Headmaster's study and the Council Chambers downstairs as well as the linking corridors and two staircases.
In Barnard’s Hall we worked from a mobile tower scaffold and protected all of the hardwood panelling, light fittings and other wall mounted items before commencing. Portraits were carefully removed and replaced after painting.
In the Council Chamber, whilst the area itself was no different in theory to a normal office area, there were several priceless items as well as various picture frames in the room that required special attention; these included a framed featured area of the original building wall, a display case with a damask table cloth used by Elizabeth I and a large canvas artwork that had to be carefully removed prior to works starting.
The Estates Manager kindly wrote us a glowing testimonial saying;
“All the work here has been carried out to an excellent standard and we are extremely pleased... I have worked with several contractors over the years and your workmen’s professional standards are excellent”.
With particular praise being given to the site foreman who was described as “polite, professional and very helpful and a fantastic asset for your company.”
